Department Of Electronics & Telecommunication is committed to provide a safe laboratory environment for its faculty, staff, students and visitors, which minimizes the risk of injury or illness to laboratory staff by ensuring that they have the training, information, support and equipment needed to work safely in the laboratory.

| Laboratory staff significantly reduce electrical hazards by following some basic precautions: |
1] Inspect wiring of equipment before each use.
2] Replace damaged or frayed electrical cords immediately.
3] Use safe work practices every time electrical equipment is used.
4] Know the location and how to operate shut-off switches and/or circuit breaker panels to shut off equipment in the event of a fire or electrocution.
5] Limit the use of extension cords. Use only for temporary operations. In all other cases, request installation of a new electrical outlet.
6] Use of multi-plug adapters equipped with circuit breakers or fuses.
7] Minimize the potential for water or chemical spills on or near electrical equipment.
8] Damaged cords are repaired or taken out of service immediately.
9] Only equipment with three-prong plugs is used in the laboratory.
10] The ground-fault circuit interrupter is used to further safety.
11] Repairs of high voltage or high current equipment are performed by trained electricians.
12] Laboratory staff review the poster for accuracy every six months and replace it as necessary and at least every two years.
13] Areas where hazardous materials exist are posted with an Emergency Information Poster.

1] Roles and responsibilities for laboratory safety in the department.
2] Chemical Hazard Identification.
3] Controlling Chemical Exposures.
4] Emergency Action Plans.
5] Prior Approval for Laboratory Procedures.
6] In the event of a fire, there are several types of fire extinguishers available.
7] Respective staff has been trained in the use of a fire extinguisher.
8] In the event of any injury or illness, first aid kits are available.
